HISTORY

A valiant member of the Green Lantern Corps Honor Guard, K'ryssma of Etrea, the Green Lantern of Sector 1890 was in high standing among her fellow Green Lanterns. Alongside Apros of -7Pi and Tomar-Re of Xudar, these three Green Lanterns were looked upon with reverence and for leadership. Each of the three led a division of the Corps against the threat of the renegade Guardian Krona and his evil master Nekron, Lord of the Unliving.

K'ryssma and Apros were stationed on Oa during the so-called Crisis on Infinite Earths. Though they were unable to prevent the Anti-Monitor's attack on the Guardians of the Universe, they stood protecting the surviving Guardians from sciencecell escapees and other intruders. Hal Jordan was one intruder apprehended by the Honor Guard. They considered him a traitor to the Corps for resigning. Jordan was soon returned to Earth by the Guardians. He would later receive a power ring from a dissenting Guardian.

Following the conclusion of the Crisis, the Guardians decided to abandon their stewardship of the universe. They abolished the system of assigning one Green Lantern per sector, allowing the Green Lantern Corps independence. Some Green Lanterns were assigned duties, such as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, who were sent to Earth to prepare it as the birthplace of a new race of immortals sometime in the next millennium.

K'ryssma and Apros were charged with protecting Appa Ali Apsa on Maltus. Furthermore, if Guy Gardner wished to keep his ring he would have to live on Maltus, helping to rebuild that world. There he would be trained in the proper way to wield a power ring.

On Maltus, Guy would defend the planet from attack by an armada of starships from Palomaris, who needed women for their world. The conditions on Maltus angered Gardner. Overcrowding and the lack of training by Appa Ali Apsa, who Guy thought was a wimp anyway, gave him the idea of sneaking away. The Honor Guard members confronted the Green Lantern from Earth. While they were satisfied with his work they could not abide by his escape plans. They easily beat Gardner, Apros invaded Gardner's mind, disabling him. They would not tell Appa Ali Apsa of the confrontation - this time.

During a later, more successful attempt, Gardner made his way back to Earth. The Green Lantern Corps Honor Guard pursued the errant Green Lantern to Earth where he was easily captured. They were prepared to take his power ring when they were stopped by Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps of Earth. The Earth based Green Lanterns offered to take Gardner as their responsibility. They felt he would eventually need to learn how to fit into society and was better off learning on his homeworld. Satisfied with this offer, Appa Ali Apsa returned to Maltus with the Honor Guard.

Some months later, K'ryssma, Apros and Appa Ali Apsa returned to Oa for the trial of Sinestro. The renegade had been captured by members of the Earth based Corps and the Green Lantern Corps of the Klyminade. He was charged and convicted with a litany of destruction and genocide on a galactic scale. The Green Lanterns knew he could not be rehabilitated or imprisoned. His punishment would need to be final. By a majority vote, the Corps had decided to execute Sinestro. Even then the renegade would manage to cheat his enemies.

The resulting implosion of the Main Power Battery following Sinestro's execution began to reclaim the power rings of all the Green Lanterns. K'ryssma returned to a chrysalis state, as her power ring had evidentally been keeping her in humanoid form.

The collapse was halted by the actions of Flodo Span, Hal Jordan and Appa Ali Apsa. Flodo Span died in the attempt and Appa Ali Apsa regained all of his Guardian powers. Of the Green Lanterns assembled on Oa, only Jordan's power ring remained.

Appa Ali Apsa decided to stay on Oa, fueling the universe's few remaining power rings. Apros was presumably relieved of his duties by the Guardian, and returned to his homeworld.

K'ryssma remained on Oa in her cocoon, undisturbed, for quite some time. Around her, scavengers came to loot Oa, only to be repelled by Hal Jordan. Cut off from his Oan brothers, the lone Guardian Appa Ali Apsa slowly went insane. The former Green Lantern known as Priest arrived to spend time with Apsa before he was murdered for refusing to join the mad Guardian in a mind union.

Appa Ali Apsa later caught John Stewart of Earth and began collecting cities from across the cosmos to be his playthings on Oa. Appa Ali Apsa was only stopped through the work of Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart and the return of his fellow Guardians. In a tremendous battle the Guardians severed Apsa's link to Oa, killing him.

Oa itself was changed. Now it was home to the cities taken by Appa Ali Apsa. Known as the "Mosaic World" many alien races were side by side in an experiment of the Guardians. John Stewart was charged with the responsibility of the lives on the Mosaic.

The return of the Guardians also marked the reestablishment of the Green Lantern Corps. Although many new Green Lanterns such as Brik and Percival were chosen, few veteran Green Lanterns were invited to join. Chaselon and Larvox were some of a small number brought back.

K'ryssma's cocoon was found by the four human children who were given power rings by John Stewart. The Mosaic Children focused their will power on the cocoon to see what was inside. The verdant energies reacted with the cocoon, causing K'ryssma to be emerge. She now possessed a more insect-like appearance with psionic capabilities and butterfly-like wings that enabled her to fly. They told her some of what had transpired before which shocked her greatly. She mourned the death of Appa Ali Apsa and wished to rejoin the Green Lantern Corps.

K'ryssma and the kids went to the Book of Oa, so she could learn more of what had happened since she began her metamorphosis. The stories in the book featuring Adam, Alan Scott, G'Nort and Itty dealt with themes of rebirth. K'ryssma believed the Guardians wished her to read the tales of others to inspire her own rebirth. The Guardians apparantly approved of her reinstatement as a Green Lantern.

Sometime after Hal Jordan's destruction of the Main Power Battery and the fall of the Green Lantern Corps, K'ryssma was captured by an interstellar slavery ring. She was put up for auction alongside two other Green Lanterns, one a feline humanoid, the other a hippocampus. Guy Gardner freed them from their bondage and learned of other Corps members that were captured.

After he broke into the slave ring, Guy led the prisoners against their would be masters. K'ryssma and the other former Green Lanterns were evacuated by a spacecruiser belonging to the Darkstars.

DARKSTAR: K'RYSSMA

K'ryssma joined John Stewart as a member of the Darkstars. Shortly after the Controllers abandoned the Darkstar project, there arose a new threat to the galaxy.

Grayven, the third son of Darkseid, had carved a path of destrution across the Milky Way galaxy. Though they numbered only eighteen, the few Darkstars with power armor took a stand on Rann.

Darkstar K'ryssma

K'ryssma volunteered for reconnaissance duty and was apparently out matched by the attackers. She fell to the planet warning Darkstar Donna Troy and Green Lantern Kyle Rayner of the approaching fleet. K'ryssma died soon after.

K'ryssma was memorialized in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps on Oa. - Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps Secret Files #1
