Synopsis:

It is Halloween and the supernatural avenger Spectre is drawn to Smallville after the recent Manhunter activity that has left a heartbroken Superman looking out over a field of dead bodies. Every child born in Smallville since Superman arrived from Krypton as a baby, was secretly made into a Manhunter agent through cybernetic implants, and now that their Manhunter masters have been destroyed the sleeper agents have all perished too. Superman feels responsible, since the purpose of turning these people into sleeper agents was for the Manhunters to be able to monitor his activities. The Spectre offers him a chance to save the people of Smallville, and they both enter the astral plane where they find a version of the town inhabited by the dead. They are attacked by Dr. Whitney – secretly a true Manhunter android – but when the Spectre discovers that they are experiencing a simulation and not a true spiritual plane, he destroys Whitney and the people are revived.
