HISTORY

Owen Mercer grew up knowing he was adopted, but it wasn't until recently that tabloid journalists tracked him down and revealed that his father was super-villain Captain Boomerang. While working at a local movie theatre, Owen was contacted by his father and learned that they shared a great skill with the boomerang, and that Owen possesses a measure of super-speed. Within days of meeting him, his father was shot, and Owen took up the mantle of Captain Boomerang, though he is unsure if he really wants to be a villain.

BLACK LANTERN: CAPTAIN BOOMERANG II

During the event known as the Blackest Night, deceased heroes and villains returned from the grave as members of the Black Lantern Corps. Owen Mercer captured his father, now a Black Lantern, and sacrificed victims, including the villain Sandblast, with the misguided belief he could restore his father to life. It had all been a trick, and Captain Cold threw the second Bomerang into the pit holding his father. He was quickly slain by the Black Lantern, and Owen Mercer of Earth then rose as a Black Lantern as well. - Blackest Night: The Flash #3
