Legion of Super-Heroes

ABOUT THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES

The Legion of Super-Heroes is a team of super-heroes from the 30th/31st Century which has played a big part in the history of the DC Universe. As a result of reality-shattering events such as Crisis on Infinite Earths, Zero Hour and Infinite Crisis we have been exposed to a number of different incarnations of the team. Some have been from alternate Earths and others from alternate futures. Below is a short description of the various versions of the team that we've seen interact with the regular DC Universe in historical order.

Legion of Super-Heroes (Original)

The main timeline version, which was introduced in Adventure Comics #247 (April 1958). This is the original Legion of Super-Heroes which was inspired by Superboy and founded by Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl. This Legion survived through the Crisis on Infinite Earths but as a result of that event Superboy had no longer existed and a replacement (later to be known as the Pocket Universe Superboy was created by the being known as the Time Trapper in order to keep the timeline intact. This incarnation of the Legion would later return.

Legion of Super-Heroes (5 Year Gap)

As a result of the Time Trapper's defeat at the hands of the villain known as Glorith the history of the Legion of Super-Heroes changed as the Pocket Universe Superboy was wiped out of existence. In an attempt to fix the timeline Glorith inserted Valor as the inspiration of the Legion instead of Superboy. Most of the Legion's prior history remained intact. The entire 5 Year Gap era would later be removed from regular continuity and become an alternate future instead.

Legionnaires (5 Year Gap)

During the 5 Year Gap era a young Legion team was discovered when they broke free of Dominion captivity. These heroes who had been designated Batch SW6 were originally thought to be clones of the original Legion but later turned out to be creations of the Time Trapper. Along with a couple of members of the 5 Year Gap Legion these young heroes would form the Legionnaires. During the event known as Zero Hour the timestream had been weakened and the young and old Legionnaires sacrificed themselves in order to mend time and save the universe.

Legion of Super-Heroes (Earth-247)

Following the events of Zero Hour Legion history had apparently completely changed and we were introduced to a new incarnation of the team. Later we learned that this team was in reality the Legion of Super-Heroes of Earth-247 which for some reason had been connected to the regular DC Universe. This team would later disappear into a space between dimensions following a fight against the Fatal Five of multiple alternate timelines along with the Teen Titans. Only the Legion member Shikari got out but ended up on Earth-Prime instead of her own Earth. The team would eventually return and team up with the original Legion and the Legion of Earth-Prime during the event known as Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds.
