HISTORY

Frustrated by numerous failed attempts to destroy Ferris Aircraft, Congressman Jason Bloch contacted the Monitor for help. With Green Lantern Hal Jordan out of the picture following a battle with The Shark, Bloch wanted to strike immediately.

From a variety of different backgrounds, the members of the Demolition Team offered their services for hire. Rosie owned a bar in New Orleans' French Quarter, and led the team brandishing a rivet gun. Scoopshovel was a professional Jai-Lai player in San Diego. Steamroller was a stunt-cyclist in Chicago. Jackhammer worked oil rigs in Houston, and Hardhat was a heavyweight boxer in New York. Each member had power equipment that matched their "industrial" names. They met Congressman Bloch in Los Angeles and took the job of destroying Ferris. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #176

Bloch learned of Green Lantern's recovery and tried in vain to call off the Demolition Team. He could not risk being tied to the destruction should the ring wielder defeat the team.

Jordan was at Ferris when the mercenaries attacked, but was called away by The Guardians of the Universe. He was assigned to stabilize the planet Omnicron Ceti IV from internal stresses that threatened to tear it apart.

Ferris Aircraft was virtually defenseless against the Demolition Team. The employees tried to protect the Solar Jet project but were minor obstacles. Help came in the form of The Predator.

The mysterious Predator picked off the Demolition Team one by one. Unfortunately, he could not save Clay Kendall, a researcher at Ferris' Psionics Lab. Kendall tried to help in the fight by gaining powers in his "Psi-Chair", but the destruction of the battle blew the generators, crippling Kendall.

Green Lantern returned to Earth too late to assist the Predator. By the time Hal Jordan arrived, the Predator had defeated the Demolition Team and disappeared.

Outfitted with upgraded armor, the Demolition Team returned with a new agenda. In memory of the destruction of Coast City, they intended to wipe out things they thought were destroying the Earth and started with a nuclear power plant in Germany. The Demolition Team met up with the super-hero team known as the Blood Pack.

On various missions, they met defeat from Black Condor and Superman. The Demolition Team inspired a knockoff villain team called the Toolbox.

Rosie was selected to merge into the being Enginehead, but was released along with the others who had become part of this composite being. After reforming, an OMAC wiped out the team and destroyed their weapons. Whether there are any survivors and whether the Team's death will be avenged is unclear.

GLCWP NOTE

I believe the Demolition Team popped up somewhere else, but I can't recall what title. It may have been the Justice League. Wouldn't the Demolition Team be an obvious choice for action figures? ;)
