HISTORY

As stated in the Encyclopedia Galactica, the Dominator Homeworld, like the Dominators themselves, has no proper name. It has been called "The Seedworld" by the Dominators but has also been known as the Dominion or Elia. No matter the name, the planet s populated by one of the most hostile, if not evil species in the universe. Once sharing its sun with a twin planet or perhaps a moon, the Dominators destroyed this other world, rather than risk its inhabitants becoming a threat someday. The Dominators take pride in the debris that still falls upon their world.

The world itself is primarily covered in oceans, with little if any open land masses recorded. Great aquatic beasts are said to lie below the surface of the water. The land masses have long since been covered by city-states for the Dominators. If there are any other lifeforms indigenous to the planet, they have thus far not been recorded.

Their society is divided by a rigid caste system, signified by a dot or disc. In ancient times this disc was worn as a necklace or on a lapel, but in the present time and into the future, it has moved from their clothing to a marking on their foreheads. This has earned them the derogatory nickname of "disc-heads" from other species. For the Dominators, the larger the disc, the higher the ranking. The largest disc, sometimes covering the full face, is generally reserved for the Dominion Emperor known as "The One." Variations of patterns on the disc may recognize specific occupations in the social strata such as warrior caste. Though commonly red, the discs have also been in blue signifying an elite military caste. To have one's disc "scraped" is to be reduced in the social order. Generally, death is the punishment instead. There was also a long rumored dissenting class of scientists and thinkers who rejected the caste system, known as the diamond caste that was discovered in a possibly variant timeline.

The Dominators believe they are the pinnacle of sentient life, both on their world and throughout the universe. It is this refusal to see any other form of life as worthy, mixed with paranoia and an insatiable urge to study provided the research does not refute their self-image that make the Dominators a true threat. Even among themselves, the Dominators tend towards great cruelty.

There is no evidence of religion in Dominator history, likely due to their tightly held belief they themselves are the superior beings. As such, there is no Dominator concept of an afterworld. Ironically, though the Dominators might not have a concept of Hell, the untold number of their victims who have met their fate on the Dominator Homeworld may have created the afterworld based on their varied religions. It would be into this realm that a Dominator would find himself after death.

The Dominion is an expansionist empire, known to have had conquered and occupied Khundia as of five thousand years ago. Many Dominion colony worlds were built on the ashes of former natives.

Dominator Emperor circa the Starro Invasion

Following the Crisis, the Guardians of the Universe left for another plane of existence. One of their number returned with a Zamaron mate to pronounce Earth as the cradle for the next advanced species.

Fearing Earth's unmatched propensity for meta-powered beings, the Dominators abducted humans as test subjects and discovered the Meta-Gene. This genetic trigger, when exposed to a catalyst, yielded spontaneous meta-human powers in 14% of their test subjects. Secretly frightened of a super powered army hailing from Earth, the Dominators rallied other interstellar powers to create the Alien Alliance. As the Green Lantern Corps was all but extinguished, Earth found itself virtually alone against this unprecedented onslaught.
