When his parents were killed by a common street thug, young Bruce Wayne swore vengeance. After 25 years of intense training he thought himself ready but on his first night out he was almost killed. Badly beaten, Wayne thought his quest for justice was over, but his life was about to take another turn when a starship crashed near his Gotham mansion.

Wayne thought he was delusional from loss of blood when the image of Green Lantern Abin Sur appeared before him, telling him he would receive the power to bring justice to the universe. The alien, a member of the Green Lantern Corps, cured Wayne's injuries and chose the Earthman as his successor, the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814.

Wayne moved the crashed ship into the caves beneath the manor and buried Abin Sur as well. Taking the power battery, he charged the power ring while reciting his oath as Green Lantern. His faithful friend, Alfred Pennyworth, stood by his side.

Modifying the basic Corps uniform by adding a cape and cowl to protect his identity, Green Lantern made his first public appearance at the Acme Chemical Processing plant. He prevented a group of thugs led by the Red Hood from releasing toxic chemicals into the Gotham River but this did not win him the respect of Police Commissioner James Gordon who had a dislike of vigilantes, especially one wielding as much power as Green Lantern.

Though Wayne was a Green Lantern, who by very nature had to patrol the stars, he never left Earth. That all changed when the Guardians of the Universe told Wayne the Green Lantern of Space Sector 1417 had abused his power by using the might of the ring to make himself absolute master of Korugar. As much as he wanted to stay on Earth, Wayne could not allow innocents to suffer when he could prevent it. The Green Lantern of Earth knew he had no choice but to take the mission to Korugar.

Wayne arrived on Korugar and quickly came into conflict with that planet's Green Lantern, Sinestro. Narrowly escaping a trap of focused yellow lasers, Wayne was chased across the alien world until he had led Sinestro back to his palace. Wayne was then able to spring the yellow laser trap on the overconfident Sinestro and strip him of his power ring.

A number of Korugarians were opposed to the off worlder's actions as Sinestro, cruel as he was, gave them direction. They quickly turned to worshipping this new Green Lantern. It was a young woman, Katma Tui, who stood up and spoke out against their willingness to blindly follow. Wayne was impressed by this and gave Sinestro's power ring to her, making her the Green Lantern of Korugar.

On Oa, Wayne met the Guardians of the Universe and Tomar-Re, Green Lantern of Xudar. They witnessed the trial and sentencing of Sinestro as the rogue Green Lantern was banished to the antimatter universe of Qward.

Returning to Earth, Green Lantern sought the aid of Commissioner Gordon in tracking down the murderer of his parents. Distrusting the ring wielder, Gordon was unwilling to help.

After Green Lantern departed, Gordon spent the next few hours going over 25 year old case files from the Park Row district. Though Green Lantern did not tell him precisely why he was looking for information from so long ago, Gordon correctly surmised Green Lantern was somehow related to a mugging in what was now called Crime Alley.

His ingenuity impressed Sinestro, who returned to the positive matter universe to face the Green Lantern of Earth once more. Armed with a yellow power ring, given to him by the Weaponers of Qward, Sinestro had been watching Gordon to find out what made Bruce Wayne the man he was. Sinestro killed Gordon, using the power ring to simulate a heart attack in the veteran police officer.

Sinestro then went after Joe Chill, the mugger that had gunned down Thomas and Martha Wayne. Eager to gain what he perceived as Joe Chill's insight in leaving young Bruce Wayne alive, Sinestro absorbed Chill's mind into his own. The result killed Chill's physical body and mentally unbalanced the Korugarian's mind.

Green Lantern investigated the deaths of Gordon and finally Chill, realizing another's hand was behind their demise. Sinestro attacked but was repelled. He would seek other allies.

Twisting District Attorney Harvey Dent and Selina Kyle into the supervillains known as Binary Star and Star Sapphire, Sinestro sent them both against Green Lantern. For his part, Sinestro attacked other worlds in Space Sector 2814. The former Green Lantern knew the Guardians would not stand for Wayne's insistence to remain on Earth while other worlds were in peril. He planned to destroy Wayne after the Earthman's power ring was taken back by the Guardians.

The Guardians debated what to do in the matter, until one had devised a strategy to achieve their goals. They asked Clark Kent of Smallville to use the powers he possessed as a Kryptonian native while Queen Hippolyta of Themyscria was asked to give her daughter to the upcoming battle. In Central City, police scientist Barry Allen was sprayed with chemicals when a bolt of emerald lightning struck the shelving in his lab.

Green Lanterns Tomar-Re, Arisia, Kilowog, and Katma Tui were dispatched to Earth to retrieve the power ring of their disobedient comrade. Bruce Wayne was not willing to give it up without a fight. The quartet overwhelmed Wayne and removed his power ring.

While the Green Lanterns battled, Sinestro, Binary Star and Star Sapphire invaded the caves beneath Wayne Manor. Sinestro brutally slammed Alfred out of the way then turned his power ring on Wayne's power battery. The arrival of the trio who would be one day be known as Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash caught them by surprise.

Wonder Woman ensnared Star Sapphire with an emerald lasso while Superman destroyed the starbands used as weapons by Binary Star. The Flash, moving faster than the light of Sinestro's yellow ring, was able to take the ring right off his finger and force him to drop the Green Lantern power battery which was picked up by Alfred. The battery let loose an explosive discharge, killing Wayne's loyal friend.

Miles away, Wayne sensed something was amiss. His will power stronger now, he was able to take back his ring and return to the cave.

Sinestro used the opportunity to escape, taking his power ring with him as well. The trio of heroes told him of Alfred's sacrifice on his behalf but Green Lantern would not stay on Earth to mourn. He followed Sinestro into space, which is what the Guardians had intended all along.

The three new heroes were given the mansion and the cave by Wayne as he departed, to serve as a headquarters for their possible future adventures. Bruce Wayne was leaving Earth behind to see that justice was served. - Batman: In Darkest Knight

Though it has yet to be revealed if he was successful in apprehending Sinestro, Green Lantern Bruce Wayne was one of many "ghosts" to appear in the super-hero themed restaurant Planet Krypton. In their efforts to defeat the near omnipotent Gog, heroes from a variant future off of the central timeline brought weaponry from differing hypertimelines back to the central timeline. These actions started to break down the barriers between hypertimelines causing hypertime fluxes. In the ensuing fight, the walls of hypertime themselves were broken, revealing the "kingdoms" of alternate realities. Kingdom: Planet Krypton #1, Kingdom #2
