OVERVIEW

Quite why the Icicle is continuing his father's Golden Age villainous legacy is unknown, but he is a far more ruthless foe than his predecessor. He has battled against heroes such as Infinity Inc., the Star-Spangled Kid, S.T.R.I.P.E., Starman and the Justice Society, often as a member of the new Injustice Society (which he is now part of against his will, wishing to leave it with his lover Tigress). Unlike his father, Cameron has no need for a 'cold gun', as he has somehow internalized the ability to freeze objects and people or to lower the temperature of a room or other area.

HISTORY

Cameron Mahkent had a cold start to life, and it went downhill from there. His absent father was the Golden Age villain known as The Icicle. Constant exposure to radical chemicals used in his freeze gun altered his DNA so that his last child was born with the ability to drop his ambient temperatures drastically. Unfortunately, these powers began to manifest themselves in the womb and killed his mother at birth.

Shunted from foster home to foster home, Cameron had trouble adjusting as his frigid personality and physical appearance caused him to be the butt of bullying until he began to strike back and began to bully himself. He came to the attention of The Wizard, one of his father’s partners in crime. Subconsciously seeking out a father figure, he followed him as a protege in crime as a member of Injustice Unlimited. Having The Wizard hypnotize Ice to be his love, he was overcome by Jade and the other Infinitors before escaping as the others were captured.

Soon afterward, he freed the captured members of his gang under the leadership of The Dummy, and once again attacked Infinity Inc., this time the team succeeded in killing the original Star-Spangled Kid and destroying their headquarters.

Lying low and keeping tabs on his relatives after his father’s death during the Crisis, he eliminated his step nephews, one who tried to become a criminal and one who briefly used his father’s freeze gun as a crime fighter.

Running afoul of both the second generation versions of Starman and the Star-Spangled Kid, he found himself in prison. Freed by Johnny Sorrow, who said he saved his father’s life while he escaped the original Green Lantern, he joined the newest version of the Injustice Society, only to find out that it was a rouse for Sorrow to release the other-dimensional monster known as the King of Tears.

Getting away from the other members, he found himself in a mob of villains orchestrated by Circe and battled Superman briefly.

After the Ultra-Humanite had enslaved the world using the power of the Thunderbolt, he found himself free of his control due to his unique body chemistry. Teaming with other free members of the JSA, he aided them in bringing down the rule of the monster, ultimately killing him against the wishes of Sand.

He teamed again with The Wizard on two occasions, the last at the insistence of the magician who acquired a spectral 'hitchhiker' while escaping the Justice League. At the conclusion of this adventure, during which he acknowledged his feelings for team-mate Tigress, Icicle found himself forced to remain as a member of the Injustice Society by Johnny Sorrow, the Wizard's supposed 'hitchhiker'.

POWERS AND WEAPONS

This incarnation of the Icicle needs no exterior source for his powers, since they are inborn. He can regulate his own body temperature to several hundred degrees below zero, generating blasts of ice and freezing air.
