HISTORY

A jet fighter pilot for the Brazilian Air Force on Earth-D, Captain José Hernandez came under attack by antimatter shadow creatures unleashed by the Anti-Monitor during the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

A hero from the stars, Green Lantern Tagin Sur came to his aid, destroying at least three of the shadows before the antimatter creatures turned on him. Sur's starcraft crashed to Earth.

Mortally wounded, Tagin Sur passed the power ring and battery onto Hernandez. The ring told Hernandez all he needed to know to defend the universe and after burying Tagin Sur, he left the crash site as Green Lantern.

An antimatter wave passed across Earth-D, eliminating everything it came in contact with. Green Lantern (John Stewart) of Earth-One was trying to rescue a scared child from the antimatter wave when Hernandez arrived. There was no way to stop the antimatter waves and save Earth-D, but the heroes of two Earths hoped to save as many people as they could before the end.

A dimensional treadmill devised by the Flash (Barry Allen) of Earth-One, was used to open a vortex to Earth-One. It was Barry Allen's theory that many of the genetic doppelgangers would merge with their Earth-one counterparts. The heroes saved a few hundred thousand before the architect of the Crisis, the Anti-Monitor, intervened. Taking Barry Allen from Earth-D, the heroes were unable to keep up the speed of the treadmill. Allen's powers had been filtering the vibrations from overloading the treadmill.

The Anti-Monitor unleashed shadow demons and antimatter waves upon Earth-D. Supergirl of Earth-D was trying to trace the demons back to their breeding grounds when one of the antimatter shadows snuck up from behind. Green Lantern José Hernandez sacrificed his life to save her from death.

Unfortunately for Earth-D, the powers of the Justice Alliance of America and the heroes from Earth-One were not enough to save their world from annihilation. The heroes of Earth-One were sent back to their world while the Justice Alliance of America met the antimatter shadows in a futile last ditch attack. Earth-D as well as its entire universe was consumed by the antimatter. - Legends of the DCU: Crisis on Infinite Earths #1
