HISTORY

As read by Lyssa Drak to Amon Sur, the Book of Parallax tells the story of Karu-Sil of the Sinestro Corps.

Karu-Sil was born on Graxos III in Space Sector 2815. Unlike the fourth and fifth planets in the Graxos system, society on the third planet was primitive and bloodthirsty. Reportedly, all animal life forms on Graxos III were all carnivorous which meant living was a constant struggle for survival. It was not uncommon for the natives of Graxos III to kill each other for food. After Karu-Sil's parents were slain she made her way out into the wilderness and after a few days was hunting on her own. Her first kill was watched by a pack of beasts which rather than attack her, shared in the meal. Karu-Sil soon became a member of their pack, and she considered the beasts her "fathers." The three beasts would protect her as one of their own. As the years went by, Karu-Sil wondered why she did not resemble the rest of her pack. She tore apart her face to make her teeth visible, like the rest of her pack.

One day, the beasts pushed her away, towards a river. For the first time since the death of her parents she saw someone like her. It was a boy about her age. Karu-Sil viciously attacked the boy, and left him for her beast companions to consume. This would prove to be the beasts' last meal as beams of emerald energy slayed the beasts. Blish, the Green Lantern of Graxos V believed he had saved Karu-Sil. He took the young girl to neighboring Graxos IV where she attacked a psychiatrist and was put into a mental institution.

Years later, freedom came for Karu-Sil in the form of the yellow power ring of the Sinestro Corps. Presumably she was taken to the anti-matter universe of Qward and was trained by Arkillo. Karu-Sil's power ring is in constant use, as it has enabled her to "bring back" her slain pack, as yellow constructs circling around her. - Green Lantern Vol. 4 #19/2

Karu-Sil was one of the first of the Sinestro Corps to attack Oa in their bid to free Superboy-Prime, the Cyborg-Superman, and Parallax. She faced Guy Gardner in battle before the Sinestro Corps withdrew, their primary mission accomplished.

Since the attack on Oa, members of the Sinestro Corps have spread across the stars, hunting down Green Lanterns either in groups or individuals. Karu-Sil has been following a power ring across Space Sector 555, slaying anyone the power ring chose to be the next Green Lantern. The only thing that slowed her down after eliminating the latest Green Lantern of Space Sector 555 was the need to recharge her power ring at the Manhunter accompanying her. Karu-Sil equates the recharge as feeding her power ring generated fathers.

POWERS AND WEAPONS

GLCWP NOTE

From Wizard http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/wizard/003000991.cfm

You're looking at the girl next door—if you lived in hell. "She comes from a planet of sociopaths where serial killers and murder are commonplace," explains Johns of the Sinestro Corps' femme fatale. "Those things around her are the equivalent of ponies on her planet. She looks at the Green Lantern Corps and doesn't understand at all what motivates them. She's Christian Bale from 'American Psycho' but female." "I think I wanted her to be a Batman character," recalls Van Sciver. "A beautiful, ghostly woman orbited by horrible dead animals tied to her like a Maypole. The animals became aliens and she became a natural addition to the Sinestro Corps."

From Newsarama http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=108339

Ethan Van Sciver: ...And then I'd always had the idea for Karu-Sil. Newsarama: She's the female from a planet where murders are no big deal, right? EVS: Yeah. But with her, I had the idea for Ghost Rider. If I ever did Ghost Rider, she was going to be a Ghost Rider villain. And I just mentioned the idea to Geoff, and we turned her into part of the Sinestro Corps. NRAMA: Why the name Karu-Sil? EVS: She's got animals all around her. She's a human carousel. So he called her Karu-Sil and came up with her origin.

Special Note: The profile picture comes from her first appearance where her costume was colored black and purple. Her costume changed colors to black and yellow after having faced her fears in the Fear Lodge.
