Comment(s):

This story presents the post-Crisis, 5 Year Gap Legion of Super-Heroes history of Mon-El / Lar Gand / Valor. This was done to replace Superboy in the (then-current) continuity. The revised origin is used in part for the post-Zero Hour version of the Legion, with M'Onel, which in turn was later revealed to be the Earth-247 Legion.

Synopsis:

The Dark Circle recounts the history of Valor, regarding his influence on the universe as a seeder of many of the Legion worlds.
Valor becomes the liberator of Dominion prison camps which had been experimenting on humans. On the Dominion Homeworld, Valor leads the Sub Domina, a resistance group in freeing the Dominator's victims and thereby crippling the caste system. Following their victory, Valor proposes those with super powers into colonizing buffer worlds between the Dominion and Earth which will forestall a potential new invasion.
Glorith later reveals herself to Valor, claiming she had manipulated events to place him in key points of history. When he refuses to become her consort, she places him in the Buffer Zone (analogous to the Phantom Zone) where he will remain for one thousand years until found by Phantom Girl.
Valor is rescued from the Zone by the Legion of Super-Heroes, but until the antidote to lead poisoning is stabilized it is only for short periods. Once he is finally freed from the Zone for an unlimited time, he is welcomed to the 30th Century as one of its greatest heroes of legend, responsible for many of the worlds comprising the United Planets.
