The flashback in this story tells the origin of Laurel Gand, including her induction as the ninth member of the Legion. Pages 8-12 of this story is a retelling of the Supergirl story in Action Comics #276/2 with Laurel Gand taking Supergirl's place in history as a result of the altered timeline.
