HISTORY

The origin of Maaldor is shrouded in mystery. By his own admission, even he doesn't know how he came to be. He was most likely formed billions of years ago in a separate dimension.

After many years of wandering and destruction, he used his powers to summon Superman and Power Girl to engage him in battle. Almost defeated, Superman convinced Maalddor to shoot himself to test his own powers. The results were catastrophic and Maaldor's physical body collapsed, and his life-force imploded creating a new plane of existence as well as a universal intelligence of pure madness. Maaldor's subconscious was then sealed within this new dimension. However, he managed to escape his prison with a new body in exchange for some of his powers. He attacked Superman but was defeated by Madame Xanadu. -DC Comics Presents #56 and #65

When Maaldor returned, he asked Earth's heroes to help him save his dark dimension. The Phantom Stranger, Superman and the Joker gave Maaldor a lobotomy, helping his Dimension remain intact. -DC Comics Presents #72

He later tried to steal the Oan power battery, but was stopped by Arkkis Chummuck who sacrificed himself.

During the Crisis, Maaldor was then recruited by Brainiac and the Spectre to attack ancient Oa. When attempting to destroy Krona's laboratory, Maaldor, Icicle I, and Mirror Master I were killed by Krona himself. But this was not the end. Unlike the other two villains, Maaldor somehow survived the encounter and went on to encounter the fifth Starman.

[Note: The exact details of Maaldor's history are unclear, as he originally encountered the Earth-1 Superman and Power Girl in the pre-Crisis timeline.]
