HISTORY

Years ago, the Soviet archaeologist Konstantin Kovar and his son Leonid discovered a spacecraft that had crashed into the Yenesi River. The ship exploded and imbued young Leonid with an unknown energy, giving him a variety of super-powers (among them super-strength and flaming powers). Leonid offered his services to his home country, and became Starfire (later Red Star), Russia's first official superhero. He cooperated with his American counterparts in the Teen Titans a few times, and following Glasnost, he even joined the team. Although still a convinced Socialist, he has realized that the Sovietism he once believed in was a failure.

Red Star lived with his 'family', Pantha and Wildebeest, in Russia's Science City for a time, before their deaths at the hands of Superboy-Prime.

[With the 'relative timeline' of the DCU, the status of historical facts such as the fall of the Soviet Union are now dubious. Possibly, the Cold War lasted longer in the DCU than in the real world, until approximately an eternal "three years ago".]
