HISTORY

The Slabside Island Maximum Security Prison is the Alcatraz of super-villains. About 80% of America's meta-human criminal society is imprisoned here. The facility is vastly bigger and stronger than its "rivals": Belle Reve, Stryker's Island, Iron Heights, Blackgate Prison, or Arkham Asylum, and usually contains thousands of super-powered inmates, constrained by special collars as part of a highly advanced security system. A specialized section called the Aqua-Block houses aquatic villains such as Slig or Orca.

The former warden, a man named Zimmer, was killed during the Joker's "Joker: Last Laugh" riot, and replaced by former Security Chief Shilo Norman. Other events around this time resulted in the Slab being relocated to Antarctica, making escape that much more difficult for the inmates.
