HISTORY

A three hundred year old soldier of fortune, Boodikka of Bellatrix was recruited by Chaselon of Barrio III for the newly reformed Green Lantern Corps.

- Green Lantern Vol. 3 #20

Boodikka had been a member of the Bellatrix Bombers, a group of warrior women hired by planets to clear the spaceways of hostile forces. The Bellatrix Bombers had been disbanded, apparantly the majority of the team had been killed along the way.

At first, Hal Jordan was taken aback by Boodikka's aggressive attitude. On the other hand, Kilowog was eager to train someone so challenging and recommended her as a candidate. It appeared Jordan had indeed rejected her. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 #20

Things changed fairly rapidly, and Boodikka was pressed into battle against Star Sapphire. She and the rest of the Corps joined in the fight against Hal's one-time love, the mercenary Flicker, and a Teban battle fleet. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 #23- #24

The new recruits were shown the Book of Oa which told the tales of the Green Lantern Corps past, present, and future. They learned stories which would help them improve as Green Lanterns. Kilowog spent a lot of time with the recruits, telling them more stories of the Corps during their training. - Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #1,3

The new Green Lanterns had their training disrupted when they went to Earth to help free Hal Jordan from the influence of Eclipso. They were no match for the eclipsed Jordan and Star Sapphire. Eclipso escaped the Corps and they returned to Oa. Guy Gardner was awarded a ring by the Guardians of the Universe to act as temporary Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814. - Green Lantern Annual Vol. 3 #1

She proved quite adept with the power ring, a worthy addition to the Green Lantern Corps. Still, taking orders was not her strong suit. She was often at odds with Kreon of Tebis, another new recruit to the Corps. As the former Chieftan of the Teban battle fleet, he was used to discipline and military precision. Their infighting had even jeopardized Oa and the Guardians during a Qwardian invasion. Guy Gardner had returned to Oa to tak the yellow power ring of Sinestro. Without Kilowog to guide them, the Green Lanterns were in chaos. Their trainer had gone to Earth to help free Hal from Eclipso. Gardner fought the Qwardians where the Green Lanterns couldn't. - Guy Gardner Reborn #3

Kreon and Boodikka came to blows when Kreon criticized her for being an undisciplined fighter. They were separated by Kilowog, but their disagreement was spreading amongst the rest of the Corps. Sides were being drawn between male and female recruits. Running out of options, Kilowog brought the two squabbling Green Lanterns to John Stewart as a "guest lecturer" in cooperation and tolerance.

Stewart could not teach the two Green Lanterns to like each other, but he could teach them to need each other. He did a mind scan on the two recruits, and "laterally transferred" their consciousnesses. The two Green Lanterns were taken one step out of reality.

Each saw their fears. Kreon's fear was represented by "Mama Denata" and represented his fear of the uncontrollable. Boodikka's fear was "the Chain Men" which represented the suffocation she felt by too much control. They were incapable of fighting their fears, the two would have to learn to work together or die.

Boodikka saw Kreon's enemy as easy to defeat and called upon him to defeat "Mama Denata" and assist her. Kreon saw "the Chain Men" as weak opponents, he told Boodikka to beat his enemy if she thought it was so easy. The Green Lanterns decided to try swapping threats and were successful. They had come to an understanding. - Green Lantern: Mosaic #6

Boodikka still had her love of battle. She gladly fought against the incarnation of Entropy, even though it appeared to mean certain death. Boodikka had indeed improved herself, she worked well with the other members of the Corps in the defeat of Entropy. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 #34- #35

In a space sector far from the Milky Way galaxy, Boodikka was assigned to investigate the deaths of many alien races. Numerous races had suddenly destroyed themselves in mass suicide, environmental destruction or massive wars.

Arriving on a world already tearing itself apart, Boodikka ran into Guy Gardner. He and his team, the so-called Gardners of the Universe, had been dispatched to solve the same problem as Boodikka.

Guy needed to prove to his leadership ability to his team of super-powered aliens from across the cosmos. Soon Gardner got into a fight with the Green Lantern. It was during this fight Guy realized his yellow ring was powered by the energy of the Green Lanterns' power rings. - Guy Gardner #9

Fully charged, Gardner's yellow power ring enabled him to see the true threat. Created in the anti-matter universe, his power ring negated the mental block of the real attackers. Gardner used his ring to free the others from their trance. He learned the true story from a native.

An alien race known as the Ophidians had come to purify the cosmos. Twice in their history they had been nearly obliterated by alien invaders. They had since dedicated themselves to destroying all other life in the universe to insure their religious quest would never again be interrupted. The Ophidians would mesmerize their victims, and then cause them to fight amongst themselves to extinction.

As the Ophidian ship escaped, Boodikka and Gardner had to join their minds together to achieve the speed needed to overtake them. When they reached the ship, it exploded. Whether this was a result of feedback from the two fighting off the mind control or self destruction, is unknown. The pair now had no way to find the Ophidians homeworld.

After the battle, Boodikka called upon the Guardians of the Universe for guidance in the matter of retreiving Gardner's yellow power ring. The Guardians had decided Gardner was working toward the same ends they were. Although they would keep an eye on Gardner, they would let him be for the moment. - Guy Gardner #9- #10

A fierce warrior, Boodikka was practiced in all the "feminine arts", such as short-swords, handguns, and personal explosives. From time to time, she would visit her mother for combat. On Bellatrix, this was considered a good time. In fact, Boodikka's grandmother had been killed by her own daughter.

Arisia, former Green Lantern of Graxos IV told this story to Justice Leaguers Power Girl, Doctor Light, and Maya when they asked about women in the Green Lantern Corps. - Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #6

The Green Lantern Corps was called upon to help Hal Jordan on the planet Maltus. He had been fighting the Maltusian gods known as the Triarch and was also under attack by the Darkstars and the L.E.G.I.O.N.

Boodikka was as impressed as any Bellatrix women would regarding the fighting prowess of Lobo, bounty hunter and L.E.G.I.O.N. operative. The two stopped their fighting for a "romantic interlude." Lobo didn't take kindly to interruptions, and missed the entire fight. - Darkstars #11, L.E.G.I.O.N. '93 #58, Green Lantern Vol. 3 #45, DC Universe: Trinity #2

As part of her duties, Boodikka eventually became a recruiter for the Corps. She had discovered Barin, a young soldier in a warrior race, who she felt would be a credit to the Corps. Unfortunately, Barin was not ready to fight unaided. On his first solo mission he was swarmed by space mongrels. Completely overwhelmed by the attack, Barin went into shock. He was found by Kilowog in a unresponsive state. Barin was brought to Oa, where he was connected to life support systems. His mind remained lost in fevered dreams. Since the destruction of Oa by Kyle Rayner, Barin's fate is unknown. - Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #7, Green Lantern Vol. 3 #0

The final mission of Boodikka was to stop Hal Jordan from reaching Oa. Although she fought well, she was no match for Jordan's mastery of the power ring. Unwilling to give up her ring, Jordan severed Boodikka's hand to take her ring from her. She was left in space by Jordan, who continued on towards Oa. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 #49

On Oa, Jordan absorbed the power of the Central Battery. It is presumed Boodikka died in deep space. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 #50

GLCWP NOTE

"Boodikka" is a phonetically-spelled version of Boadicea or Boudicca, warrior-queen of the Iceni (of Norfolk) of the British Isles in 61 AD. She led the Iceni in revolt against the Romans. Her army was crushed and she took poison. Thanks to Cubist for looking this up. With this background, it's no wonder she and Kreon don't get along. Interesting parallel with the death of her fellow Bellatrix Bombers.
