Green Lantern desperately appeals to Valka, explaining his defection had been a ruse so the heroes could learn of the Demolishment. In fact, his confession was just another ruse so Green Lantern could get into Valka's office where he'd be close enough to control his power ring.

Both heroes are too worn down from their ordeals to make a direct escape. Using a horse-drawn cart full of hay, the disguised Green Lantern attempts to cross the border but Valka is suspicious and finds Batman. The Caped Crusader pulls the Colonel into the cart preventing the soldiers from shooting as they race across the border. Batman had not been beaten by the Demolishment, having realized the gun was filled with blanks he had played along so Viklas would think he had the upper hand. With the knowledge of the Demolishmant technique, the heroes have succeeded in their mission.

Synopsis:

Green Lantern defects to the People's Republic (a communist nation modeled after East Germany and China) with aeronautic secrets from America. The Chief of Intelligence, Colonel Miklos Vakla, is reluctant to believe the American hero and has the power ring taken and the hero beaten. America is shocked by this turn of events and Batman attempts to sneak into the People's Republic but is captured.

Batman is then subjected to "the Demolishment," a cruel series of tortures created by Miklos which is said to be capable of brainwashing any man. Valka is eager to try it out on Batman. As a test of the procedure, Valka orders Batman to shoot Green Lantern, which the Cape Crusader does, but the gun is loaded with blanks. Batman falls to the ground sobbing.

With the knowledge of the Demolishment technique, the heroes have succeeded in their mission.
