History of the New 52/Rebirth DC Universe: Flashpoint to Year of the Villain |
The History of the New 52/Rebirth DC Universe covers the DC Universe that came in the wake of the reality-changing event known as Flashpoint.
While the changes caused by the Flashpoint go all the way back to the Dawn of Time, this timeline will focus on the events following the Flashpoint event itself up until the present day. We are currently working on a more comprehensive timeline that will go back to the Dawn of Time. Rebirth also altered the DC Universe, but while some of the changes were quite substantial these changes happened gradually rather than as a big shift, and as a result they will be handled in comments in the references. The timeline below flows vertically from top to bottom. The events in the first column serve as the starting point for all entries in that row. Each row is divided into 11 columns focusing on events relating to the character groups listed at the top. At the bottom of the timeline is a scrollbar which will enable you to see columns that are not visible in standard view. [Note: The scrollbar is not visible on tablets and mobile devices but the columns can easily be swiped to the side] |

Comments
Not all Main Events in the timeline are big crossovers, as we've strived to make each period last cover about one year of published material.
A casual reading of a few DC comics will make it clear that a whole month does not usually pass for the characters in between monthly issues of a issue. Many issues begin hours or even minutes after the previous month's story. As a result of this we have focused on the sequence of events rather than years or exact time in the timeline.
Also, while specific dates sometimes appear in stories, as well as mention of contemporary fashions, and usage of contemporary slang, this is what is generally refereed to as Topical References. These are specific dates (or other) added by a writer or artist to make it seem current at the time the story is being published. They are not necessarily indicators of when - what year or even what decade - a story took place, when looking at the history of the DC Universe as a whole.
