HISTORY
The Fear Lodge is a specialized, organic-appearing enclosure utilized by the Sinestro Corps during its formative era to temper and test new recruits. The exact origins of these structures remain a mystery. It is unknown whether they are artificial constructs, grown biological organisms, or materials harvested and scavenged from deep space. Visually, a Fear Lodge closely resembles the massive, calcified shell that covers the sniper Bedovian and could be the casings of others of his species.

The trial of the Fear Lodge is a brutal process designed to force a recruit to master the Yellow Light of Fear. Before entering, a recruit's power ring was completely drained of energy by the Book of Parallax. The recruit is then sealed inside the absolute darkness of the Lodge. To escape, they cannot rely on outside power. Within the darkness, the recruit would need to embrace their own fears and light their power rings with nothing but a spark of fear. Channeling the fear triggers the ring to unlock and open the structure. Recruits who fail to ignite a spark would remain trapped. Some recruits had died of thirst or hunger, or taken their own lives.
While the use of Fear Lodges was widely documented when the Sinestro Corps was newly established, it is currently unknown if the practice remains active, has been abandoned, or has been modified under subsequent leadership and changing circumstances. Due to the vast physical and physiological variations among the species recruited into the Corps, it is possible that Fear Lodges were engineered or grown in various sizes to accommodate different initiates.
