HISTORY
Existing in the prior universe were the Lightsmiths of which the Indigo Lightsmiths of Empathy shared a peaceful coexistence with others in the light. Their universe saw entire cities made of light as civilizations flourished, fueled by the seemingly inexhaustible power of the Emotional Reservoir.
One voice rose in warning that the light might not be infinite. This prominent scientist was scorned and accused of being a Relic for looking back to existence prior to the wonders of the light. He searched the universe for evidence supporting his theories.
The unheeded words proved true as on the homeworld of the Blue Lightsmiths of Faith, "The Dimming" began as their power converter went dark. Over time this appears to have struck other worlds as the War of the Dwindling Light began. No longer working in unison, the Lightsmiths fractured, turning on each other in combat.[1]
The length of time it took for the situation to devolve has not been documented and other factions rose. The Light Pirates sought to take the dwindling light for themselves. Numerous Lightsmiths were captured and their staves were taken. The once powerful Lightsmiths were not subjects of experimentation and exploitation.[2]
A force from the next universe was shunted into the Lightsmiths' reality. The Green Lantern Corps, wielders of green light of will were also captured but successfully fought back against the Light Pirates. Now freed, the Lightsmiths fled to gather their forces.
One among these Green Lanterns was the living planet, Mogo. The Lightsmiths sought to conquer the world and unleashed their power converters.[3] The Green Lantern Corps was able to route the Lightsmiths[4] and return to their universe before the end.[5]
It can be assumed the Lightsmiths continued their battles against each other as their universe died. The sole survivor was Relic, the scientist whose warning were tragically ignored.[6]

The Indigo Lightsmiths of Empathy access their powers by use of a globe-tipped stave.
