HISTORY

In the infinite reaches of Hypertime the reality of one universe may be startlingly similar to that of another, save for slight differences.

So it was on an "Other Earth" on which Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris attended the Coast City Science Fair. Testing a truth machine exhibit, Hal asked Carol if she loved Green Lantern or Hal Jordan. When Carol admitted she used to love Green Lantern but now loved Jordan, the test pilot proposed to her on the spot.

Later, back at the Ferris mansion, Jordan revealed he was also Green Lantern. At first, Carol did not believe him as he had been proved a number of times that he could not be the emerald warrior. It took a power ring flight over the Ferris estate to convince Carol that Hal truly was Green Lantern. They were married days later in a ceremony at the Ferris estate. Coast City mayor Ralph Walters performed the services.

The Jordans' mountain resort honeymoon was interrupted by the surprising arrival of Green Lantern. Hal believed the look-alike was an impostor but this was far from the true explanation.

The Green Lantern they were faced with was indeed Hal Jordan, but, as he explained to his bewildered counterpart, a Hal Jordan from a different Earth. Some days earlier, this Hal Jordan (from what was sometimes referred to as "Earth-One") had attempted to capture a gang of criminals who were robbing laboratories and research facilities of their rare metals and minerals. While attempting to nab Louie Knox, the gang's leader, Knox accidentally hit into a "radiotron," a device which filled their bodies with "espian" radiation.

A yellow hued form of energy, espian radiation pulsed in cycles, increasing and decreasing in intensity. When the pulsation reached full cycle, both the Green Lantern and Louie Knox of Earth-One were phased to an "Other Earth" and merged with their Other Earth counterparts. This Green Lantern had merged with his counterpart at the moment Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris were at the Science Fair.

The Green Lantern of Earth-One had realized what had happened and rather than merging with the Other Earth Green Lantern, he had ordered his power ring to stop the process. Though he was brought to the Other Earth he now existed separately from his counterpart. Before he sought his counterpart's help, the Earth-One Green Lantern apprehended the Louie Knox from this parallel world.

After the Other Earth Hal Jordan had heard the Earth-One Green Lantern's explanation, both worked together to seal off the barrier between their respective worlds. While they could not prevent the espian radiation from passing through the barrier, the physical forms of the Earth-One Hal Jordan and Louie Knox would be held back by the barrier while the espian radiation harmlessly dissipated on the Other Earth. Carol and Hal of the Other Earth wished this Hal Jordan the best and bid him farewell. Upon his return to Earth-One, that Green Lantern was able to capture his Louie Knox as he had on Other Earth.

In the years since the Green Lantern of Other Earth was visited by his Earth-One counterpart major time/space disruptions such as the so-called Crisis on Infinite Earths and the Zero Hour event have altered the multiverse, unifying it into a main timeline. What effect this has had on the Other Earth Hal Jordan remains to be seen. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #32
