OVERVIEW

Chemistry teacher Thomas N. Thomas and his student Dan Dunbar somehow absorbed chemical reactions which meant that when they touched each other they caused an explosion and were also charged with a small measure of speed, strength and invulnerability. They took to fighting crime as T.N.T. and Dan the Dyna-Mite, joining the All-Star Squadron. TNT was killed by Gudra the Valkyrie in April 1942 and was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor.

HISTORY

While working on chemical experiments with his young friend and student, Dan Dunbar, 'Tex' Thomas accidentally discovered that he and Dan were absorbing chemical reactions. When the two came into contact with each other, they caused a violent chemical explosion that also left them charged with increased speed and strength and resistance to harm for a short time. The two decided to use this newfound ability to fight crime, like so many in the news in that era, and so became TNT and Dyna-Mite.

After only about six months of crime fighting, TNT and Dyna-Mite received a summons to meet with other heroes in a government sponsored super-group called the All-Star Squadron. They met several times with the group and were on a mission to check into possible sabotage activity in Colorado in late April, 1942, when TNT was killed by the Norse villainess Gudra the Valkyrie. Despondent that his crimefighting career was over, Dan kept the ring that the two had each worn to activate their powers, and when he slammed the two together, Dyna-Mite found that he could still activate his powers. T.N.T. was posthumously given the Presidential Medal of Honor.

POWERS AND WEAPONS

At first, T.N.T. and Dyna-Mite were "positively" and "negatively" charged, so that when each touched the rings that each wore together, it activated their powers, which included increased strength, speed and resistance to injury. They have been shown to be able to transfer these charges to other objects. They could also project electrical charges from their hands. After T.N.T.'s death, Dyna-Mite could affect the change by himself using both rings. The electrical blasts became more concussive explosion, so there may be a possible link to QRX-27, The Human Bomb's origination of his powers. Their costumes may have been made of a form of "fibro-wax", which withstood The Human Bomb's blasts. Both were very good athletes, and good hand-to-hand combatants.
