HISTORY

Volitans and fellow rookie Lantern Peeri were assigned to guide a Slyggian ambassador’s ship to Oa. This simple mission took an unexpected turn when the ship caught fire and began a rapid, uncontrolled descent.

Despite their efforts, the ship was doomed but for timely intervention of Kyle Rayner, who stabilized the vessel and brought it in for a safe landing. The new Lanterns recognized Rayner as the "Torchbearer" who famously kept the emerald light alive when the rest of the Green Lantern Corps had fallen.

As a Green Lantern, Volitans possesses a power ring and power battery.

Volitans is a Latin term meaning "flying," "fluttering," or "moving about," often used in biological naming to describe creatures with wing-like appendages or movement. It is commonly attributed to the venomous Red Lionfish (Pterois volitans), which bears a resemblance to the character Volitans.
